Description
Jamini Roy turned away from academic painting and looked instead to the folk artists around Kolkata’s Kalighat temple.
The cat clutching a prawn became one of his most recognisable images — bold outlines, flat colour, and a form reduced to its essentials. He returned to it again and again, each version slightly different but always unmistakably his.
The figure sits playfully, the expression fixed, the humour subtle but immediate.
Presented as a BAC canvas installation, the artwork is tension-mounted on solid Sagwan teak. No glass. No outer frame — just a clean, handcrafted structure that brings the work forward on the wall.
