Description
Jamini Roy turned away from European academic training and looked instead to the folk painters around Kolkata’s Kalighat temple.
The cat clutching a prawn became one of his most recognisable images — bold, flat, and completely unapologetic. He returned to it again and again, like a jazz musician revisiting a favourite riff, each version slightly different but always unmistakably his.
On BAC’s large-format canvas, the work brings warmth, wit, and a distinctly Bengali character into the space.
Presented as a floating canvas installation, the artwork is tension-mounted on solid Sagwan teak, creating a clean, modern structure designed for contemporary walls.
