Description
Jamini Roy did something radical: he turned his back on European academic training and looked instead at the folk painters outside Kolkata’s Kalighat temple. The cat clutching a prawn became one of his most repeated images — bold, flat, completely unafraid. Roy painted it again and again, like a jazz musician returning to a favourite riff, each version slightly different but always unmistakably his. On a large BAC canvas, this brings warmth, wit, and a distinctly Bengali soul into any room.
